“Undertake something that is difficult; it will do you good. Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow.”
- Ronald E. Osborn

What to look for when choosing to engage in the counselling process?
So this is your first time seeking help or your hundredth – regardless it is important to discuss the following with any potential counsellor you may see:
- Check the qualifications of the counsellor and make sure they are accredited to work within the industry.
- Discuss with the counsellor their area of speciality/interests and the type of therapies used during the counselling process.
- Check if you are the right fit with the counsellor you are seeing – not every client and counsellor are right for each other during a therapeutic relationship.
- Be honest during sessions with your counsellor as this allows for more transparency and assistance.
- Make sure you feel safe and listened to by the counsellor you are seeing.
- Make sure the expectations of the counselling process are discussed by both the counsellor and the client.
REFERRALS
- Client’s do not require a referral from a GP or other Health Professional unless accessing via a mental health care plan.
